چکیده

Abstract Background Psychogenic non-epileptic seizure (PNES) has long been the counterpart of epileptic (ES). Despite ample evidence differentiating two, PNES mistakenly diagnosed as ES was still common, resulting in unnecessary exposure to long-term antiepileptic medications and reduced patient’s caregiver’s quality life, not mention burgeoning financial costs. Objectives In this review, we aimed elucidate various differences between with respect baseline characteristics, semiology, EEG pattern, other key hallmark features. Methods An unstructured search carried out PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE using keywords pertinent differentiation. Relevant information subsequently summarized herein. Results differs significantly terms prodromal symptoms, presence pseudosleep, features (for instance provoking suggestion). The combined approach, if applied appropriately, can yield high diagnostic yield. Conclusions be clearly differentiated from via careful adherence a set valid clinical cues. hallmarks is highly useful prevent diagnosis treatment AEDs.

Quality of life Differences between Patients with Epilepsy and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizure

Background: Epilepsy is a neurological disease that is associated with recurrent seizures that can be caused by abnormal brain activity. Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES)have psychological bases and their clinical behavior is similar to epileptic attacks. Both patients with seizure and PNES often suffer from psychiatric problems. The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life ...

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) need to be differentiated from epileptic seizures as the management varies for both. Presence of tongue biting, falling and urinary incontinence favors a diagnosis of epileptic seizures. We report two children with features suggestive of epileptic seizures that were eventually diagnosed as PNES with the help of video-EEG monitoring.

A review of the clinical approach and challenges to psychogenic non-epileptic seizures

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) is a relevant differential diagnosis in epilepsy clinics because of its high prevalence and impact on patient’s lives and health care services. An approach to the diagnosis and treatment of PNES is important, and many issues make the subject challenging. Video electroencephalography (VEEG) is considered the gold-standard for PNES diagnosis but there is ...

Non-Epileptic Psychogenic Seizures: a Neurologist’s Perspective

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) represent a relatively frequent challenge for clinicians. While they resemble epileptic seizures, they are not the consequence of paroxysmal electrical discharges in the brain, but are related to psychological triggers in vulnerable subjects. Gold standard of PNES diagnosis remains the recording of a typical event under video-EEG. PNES recognition is no...
